National Voter Registration Day Provides Good Reminder: Register & Vote

For Immediate Release

Tomorrow as part of National Voter Registration Day in-person voter registration opportunities will exist at college campuses, shopping centers, restaurants and other venues in Arizona and across the country.

According to Arizona Secretary of State Michele Reagan, “National Voter Registration Day serves as a reminder that important elections also take place in non-Presidential election years. For example, this November citizens in many of our municipalities will vote on items such as local school funding and/or local leadership.” Secretary Reagan noted that National Voter Registration Day is endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State and the National Association of State Election Directors.

In addition Diane E. Brown, Executive Director of the Arizona PIRG Education Fund, mentioned that 3,000 entities nationally including Facebook, Twitter, United Way, Univision and Country Music Television are promoting National Voter Registration Day.

Brown stated, “National Voter Registration Day provides a high-profile opportunity to remind citizens to register to vote or to change their voter registration status if they have changed their address, name or political party preference.”

The annual effort began in 2012 and since then 1.4 million people have registered to vote or updated their voter registration according to the National Voter Registration Day organization.

Secretary Reagan pointed out that although National Voter Registration Day serves as a “good reminder” to register to vote and participate in our democracy, Arizonans can go online to www.Arizona.Vote and register or change their voter registration 365 days a year.

October 10 is the deadline to register to vote in the November 7, 2017 election.
