Today the Arizona Corporation Commission made a historic move towards increasing solar, wind and other renewable energy resources for Arizonans.

Diane E. Brown, Executive Director of the Arizona PIRG Education Fund stated, “During a heated and divisive election season, the Commission recognized the statewide support that exists for clean, renewable energy and voted in favor of the public’s interest.”

The Renewable Energy Standard would increase Arizona’s current goal of 1.1% renewable energy by 2007 to a standard of 15% by 2025. The rules state 30% of the standard is to be derived from distributed energy resources – small-scale technologies located close to where energy is used, such as roof-top photovoltaic projects or solar hot water projects.

Brown added, “More renewable energy in Arizona means more jobs and less pollution. The state’s economy and the public’s health will benefit from increased renewable energy.”
