Traffic Congestion Negatively Impacts Arizona

According to data released today, Arizonans in the Phoenix metropolitan area wasted over 80 million hours of additional time stuck on the roads, and 57.2 million gallons of additional gas as a result of traffic congestion in 2007.  Tucson residents wasted 17 million hours in traffic delays, wasting 10.9 million gallons of gas as a result of traffic.

June 29th, 2009 marks the 120-day deadline for Arizona and the other states to commit at least 50% of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act’s (ARRA) $26.6 billion in transportation funds. Private Roads, Public Costs

Road privatization is a growing issue in the United States as politicians and transportation officials grapple with budget shortfalls. Toll road privatization takes two forms: the lease of existing toll roads to private operators and the construction of new roads by private entities. In both instances, private investors are granted the right to raise and collect toll revenue, a right that can amount to billions of dollars in profits for the shareholders.

Fisher-Price recalled 4.7 million Rock n’Play baby sleepers on Friday. U.S. PIRG Consumer Watchdog Adam Garber issued a response: "“While we’re pleased that Fisher-Price is finally recalling these dangerous sleepers, 30 deaths in 10 years is 30 deaths too many and 10 years too late."
